Effective networking for a job is the number one way that most people get jobs. When people get laid off they tend to gravitate to the job boards but depending on what study you look at only about 8 to 14% get jobs from the job boards. Several studies that I’ve seen have shown over 50% of jobs come through networking. I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying it’s not what you know it’s who you know and that is so true with job search. Remember, a lot of companies pay referral fees because it saves them a lot of time and money if they can hire somebody who’s been recommended to them and those people usually stay around for a lot longer.
